Hydroelectricity

Hydroelectricity

One of Qair’s historical activities, which the group has mastered for over 30 years: the deployment of Hydroelectric projects. We have developed and operated run-of-the-river power plants and penstocks of various sizes, primarily in France.

OUR PROJECTS

Our expertise allows us to develop greenfield projects, but also to repower or retrofit existing plants, in order to optimize their production and availability. One of the main challenges we face and address successfully today is designing and building medium-sized hydro plants, while minimizing any impact on local ecosystems. Qair continues to deploy its know-how in close partnership with local players. Specifically, we hold a stake in an Icelandic hydropower developer and operator. This company currently operates a 3.2MW hydropower plant with another 6.5MW being commissioned in 2020. The company has an advanced development pipe of over 80 MW.

MULAVIRKJUN POWER PLANT

In 2018, the Mulavirkjun plant generated 14.5 GWh of electricity, it supplied 3,000 homes (value at average annual consumption).
